God Calling

The last weeks of August are, in Northern Virginia, transitional.  It's the last gasp of summer and, for some, it means that one last trip out of town before back to the routines of the fall and school.  For some of us, the transition is a milestone, sending a child off to school for the first time or moving into a new house, or a new community.  For many of us, fall transition is mental--a pattern fixed long ago where fall signified the opportunity of a new beginning, new habits, new friends, even a new life.

It's exciting to look ahead and see some of the things God is bringing our way:

Justin Kellough joins our staff as Pastor to Students.  It's been over 2 years since we had this position filled.  During the summer, our students have been prepared as they experienced Student Life Camp, worked in Vacation Bible School, engaged in Bible study as part of DIG groups, and participated in missions in the Dominican Republic.  What a great working of God as we enter the fall in Student ministry.

Within a few short weeks we will be rallying around "PRAYING IT FORWARD", a congregational call to 90 days of generosity.  We are going to embrace the challenge of making an impact in our community and Church in ministry and mission.  We will tackle projects, grow in giving and gracefully give away God's tangible love within our sphere of influence.  From mid-October to mid-January, we will focus on living the Gospel.

We're launching new home groups in early September.  Some of you are looking for connections and realize Sunday mornings are either way too busy or Sunday School classes are way too full.  Early in September will be an opportunity to explore alternative evenings to link up as a follower of Jesus.

Servant opportunities abound.  Children's ministry has places on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, music, activities, special events, and a host of other stuff.  Worship ministry has places in the choir, drama events, holiday special services and other places God can use your gifts.  Missions is wide open--locally, nationally, and internationally, as well as ministry within our own congregation.  There's Levite ministry--from greeter tables to parking lot ushers.  If you're looking for a place to serve, we've got a place for you.

Maybe these last few days of August are your days of transition and you're praying about what God wants you to do in September.  Here...try these!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Ray
