Jeff Cunningham

Jeff Cunningham

Personal: Jeff was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jeff married Ok Nan in 1982. They have one grown daughter, Sandra.

Spiritual Journey: Jeff accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in May of 1985 while attending Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. Shortly after joining Central Baptist, Jeff and OK Nan moved overseas on assignment with the US Air Force. Jeff grew spiritually by leading and attending a variety of Bible studies at various churches throughout his Air Force and civilian career. Jeff was ordained as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Bellevue, Nebraska in 1992.

FBCW Service: Jeff and his family started attending FBCW in July 2000 and joined the church in September 2000. Jeff and Ok Nan began their service at FBCW by teaching a class in the children's' ministry. Jeff led an adult Sunday school class for several years and continues to serve as a substitute teacher for adult Bible studies. Jeff served as a Levite during the three years FBCW met at Woodbridge Senior High School. Jeff's ministries also included service as Chairman of both the Personnel Committee and the Administrative Ministry Team. Jeff served as a Deacon at FBCW from 2005 to 2011. He was ordained as an Elder in February 2012. Jeff contributes to a variety of FBCW ministries, such as serving in the choir and leading a small group Bible study.

Career: Jeff served in the United States Air Force for 21 years. After his Air Force service, Jeff and Ok Nan moved to Woodbridge in 2000 where Jeff worked as a contractor in Washington DC. Jeff is now employed by the federal government as a Human Resources Officer.

Bill Lytle

Personal: Bill was born and raised in the Northern Virginia area, primarily Woodbridge. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl, in 1987. They have three daughters, Amanda, Lexie and Sydney.


Spiritual Journey: A few years into their marriage, Bill, together with his family, started attending a local Baptist church. Soon after, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and has continued growing spiritually ever since, and especially since coming to FBCW.


FBCW Service: Bill and Cheryl joined FBCW in February of 1999. He has served in numerous capacities since that time, including; Sunday School teacher, Elder, Deacon, Finance member, Administrative Ministry Team Chairman (twice) and served as Missions Chairman. He is currently a Sunday School teacher in Children’s Ministry, Host for the College Age Small Group and Elder. He has also served in Student Ministry, taught in other Children’s Ministries area, such as Kid’s Club, Vacation Bible School, Sports Camp, and the New Christians Class, and served on various committees, including the Initial Elder Selection Committee.


Career: Bill worked almost 13 years in the government, for the Army’s Communications Electronics Command (CECOM) in the area of tactical communications and special systems design and engineering. Following government work, he went to work as a managing partner and Chief Information Officer for a small business startup focused on information technology and information security. Bill is currently a partner at TechAnax, a service disabled veteran owned small business which focuses on information technology support to the federal government and Department of Defense.

Howard Meyer

Personal: Howard was born and spent the first thirteen years of his life in the Andrews AFB, MD, area. After his stepfather retired from the Air Force in 1968, his family moved to Columbia, South Carolina. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, after graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1977. Howard and Mary have three daughters, Rachel, Hannah, and Amy, and three grandsons.


Spiritual Journey: Howard has been a Christian for 46 years having accepted Christ at a youth retreat the Saturday before Easter (March 29, 1969). He fully committed his life to Christ in his senior year of high school after attending a Bible study led by an assistant principal at his high school. Within six weeks, his pastor asked Howard and a friend to start a Bible study for youth on Saturday nights at their church. Since that time, Howard has been leading Bible studies in homes and churches nearly continuously. He has served as a Deacon in three churches (including FBCW) and as an Elder at two churches in addition to FBCW.


FBCW Service: Howard and his family joined FBCW in September of 1998. He has served as Deacon and Sunday School/Bible Study teacher as well as serving as an Elder during this time. He also served on the Bylaws Revision and Executive Pastor Search Committees.


Career: The Lord led Howard to the Air Force Academy and a military career after high school. After graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1977, he served in the Air Force in a variety of operational, teaching/educational, and research oversight/direction positions until retiring in 1999. Since that time, he has served as a Scientific Advisor with SAIC (1999-2003) and Booz Allen Hamilton (2004-presen) in the office of the Army Chief Scientist, two Headquarters USAF directorates, and the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.

Fred Raines

Fred Raines

Personal: Fred was born in Miami, Florida. He spent the first few years of his life in a variety of railroad towns, mostly in Florida and Alabama as his father found seasonal work during the Depression. Most of his childhood was spent in the Panama Canal Zone. After returning to the USA, Fred finished high school in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, then the University of Virginia where he met Polly. They were married in the UVA Chapel on December 21, 1956. Fred and Polly have four adult daughters and 12 grandchildren.


Spiritual Journey: Fred’s earliest memories of life are of church related activities. Later, a lifelong progression of spiritually nourishing mentors and associations cushioned any hard times. At age 13, Fred made his profession of faith and was baptized during a midsummer revival at Belleville Baptist Church, in rural South Alabama. Throughout his college years at UVA, Fred was active in the Baptist Student Union, developing stronger Christian relationships, including one with nursing student Polly Smith, who was soon to become Polly Raines. Fred has been active in a variety of roles in several Baptist and interdenominational churches here and abroad. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1968 at Bay Ciea Baptist Church, Tampa Florida, and has served four churches in that capacity.


FBCW Service: Fred and Polly began attending FBCW during the “wilderness years” when services were held in Woodbridge High School and joined FBCW in 2006. Fred has been an active participant and contributor in a variety of FBCW activities and ministries to include men’s bible study, substitute Sunday School teacher, the Personnel Team, and as a Deacon.


Career: Fred served in the US Army for 31 years. After retirement from the Army he worked with a national defense related association and still serves as a board member. He also maintains a part time commitment with a company that provides training support to security and law enforcement organizations.

Sam Sanford

Sam Sanford

Personal: Sam was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Sam married Cindy in 1988. They have two children, Jacob and Gabi.

Spiritual Journey: As a teenager Sam accepted Jesus as his personal Savior while attending his home church—a small Baptist church in Dayton. He rededicated his life to Christ in 2001.

FBCW Service: In 1998 Sam and his family started attending FBCW and quickly fell in love with the First Family. In 2001 they officially became members of FBCW. Since 2002 Sam has consistently participated in Bible study (Men's Bible study—originally Promise Keepers; FBCW Pastor's Bible study). Since 2003 he has led and facilitated a variety of classes: Sam and Cindy started the adult Sunday school class, 'Daily Walk' and Sam served as teacher for 5-6 years. He led a FBCW Biblical Manhood study. Currently, Sam teaches young adults Sunday school and Sam and Cindy have opened up their home to lead a young adult small group Bible study. Sam helps in leading Deacon training and substitute teaches for various classes. In May 2005 Sam was ordained as a deacon. In June of 2010 he was ordained as an Elder. Occasionally Sam supports various church initiatives involving the creative arts.

Career: Sam worked in the private sector for approximately 5 years after graduating from college and has been in federal service for the last 27 years.

Randy Zeigler, Sr.

Randy Zeigler, Sr.

Personal: Randy was born and raised in Salem, Ohio. In June of 1977 Randy and Ann were married. They have two sons, Randy, Jr., (RJ) living in Dumfries and Robert living in Florida.

Spiritual Journey: Randy was raised in a Christian home and attended an Evangelical Friends Church. During his middle school years Randy became active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). It was in June of 1972 at a Fellowship of Christian Athlete's Conference at the US Naval Academy that Randy accepted Christ during a huddle meeting hosted by Roger Staubach. However, it was not until 1979 that he was baptized by a Southern Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. He has been active in the Baptist Church since then.

FBCW Service: Randy and Ann joined FBCW in April of 2001. Randy began his service by working with the Audio and Video Team as a video camera operator. Randy continues to support the Multimedia Team on an as needed basis. In 2005 he also began to work with the Senior Adult Ministry as a lay leader and currently continues in that position. Randy served as an Administrative Ministry Team Officer from 2006 through 2008. Randy was ordained by FBCW as a Deacon in October of 2009. As a Deacon he participates in the Visitation Ministry and also has a heart for congregational care.

Career: Randy served in the Army from 1978 to 1987 spending that time here in the Washington area serving in the White House Communications Agency. In 1987 he joined Motorola, Inc, as a wireless engineer. He is currently a Service Engineering Manager for Motorola Federal Government Markets Division. Randy is a member of the IEEE and CTIA. Randy is active in Kiwanis and is a past president in the Woodbridge, VA, club. Randy began his Elder ministry in April of 2010 and will complete his six year term in April of 2016.
